Job Description & Purpose:

We are looking for an HR Consultant to lead, develop, and implement our HR recruitment and policy functions using a structured project management approach to meet key milestones and deliverables. In this role, you will manage end-to-end recruitment processes for multiple roles, ensuring a smooth and effective hiring experience. You will also develop, present, modify, and implement key HR policies and procedures essential to our growing organization, including leave management, performance evaluations, and employee relations. You would be joining our team on a Fixed Term Contract to help us achieve our first set of objectives.

The ideal candidate will be highly organized, solution-oriented, and able to manage multiple HR projects with clear timelines and deliverables. They should possess strong interpersonal skills, fostering relationships across all levels of the organization. This role is pivotal in bringing structure to our HR operations, driving policy improvements, and introducing new elements that align with our scope.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:

Recruitment Cycle Management:

  • • Collaborate with hiring managers to understand job requirements, ensuring alignment with organisational needs and goals.
  • • Source, screen, and assess candidates, ensuring thorough vetting processes for all potential candidates and oversee initial phone screens.
  • • Shortlist, prepare interview packs and invite respective candidates.
  • • Coordinate interviews and assessments with internal stakeholders, ensuring that all parties are aligned at each stage. Collating candidate results and providing relevant documentation at each stage of the process and utilise psychometric testing for senior roles.
  • • Provide consistent communication to candidates throughout the recruitment process, ensuring a positive candidate experience. Provide candidates with updates, answer questions, and provide feedback throughout the candidacy process.
  • • Maintain strong relationships with candidates, ensuring a smooth recruitment process and positive experience during the onboarding phase
  • • Ensure compliance with all relevant labour laws and regulations throughout the recruitment process.
  • • Track, analyse and report recruitment metrics such as time-to-fill, quality of hire, and cost-per-hire using basic tools such as Excel. Always ensure that recruitment metrics are being tracked and monitored appropriately. Use data to improve recruitment processes and outcomes.
  • • Develop talent pipelines for critical roles, including sourcing candidates for internships, apprenticeships, and leadership in line with B-BBEE requirements.
  • • Identify cost-effective recruitment strategies and maintain an organised applicant database.
  • • Facilitate career fairs and build relationships with educational institutions to create a diverse candidate pool. [Future Scope]
  • • Understand the business structure, develop and update organograms, and review or create job descriptions.
  • • Maintain an organised and up-to-date system using Excel to track applicants and recruitment stages.

HR Policy Development and Implementation:

  • • Lead the development, presentation, modification, and implementation of comprehensive HR policies and procedures tailored to the organisation's needs and growth plans.
  • • Collaborate with leadership to create policies that address gaps in existing processes and introduce new elements that align with the organisation's evolving scope.
  • • Key focus areas include the development of a Leave, Performance Management, Code of Conduct, Disciplinary, and Grievance Management.
  • • Ensure all policies comply with South African labour laws and employment regulations.
  • • Present policies to management using PowerPoint, gathering feedback and revising as necessary to ensure practicality and alignment with organisational goals.
  • • Roll out approved policies across the organisation, providing training and guidance as needed.
  • • Create, manage and implement a consistent onboarding process for all new hires, ensuring alignment with the company's culture and values.
  • • Lead the development of employee relations policies to ensure fair and consistent application across the organisation.
  • • Conduct market research to align compensation and benefits policies with industry standards and the organisation’s objectives.
  • • Develop a framework for performance management, including scorecards, KPIs, and performance reviews, using Excel and Word templates.
  • • Monitor compliance with policies and address any issues or inconsistencies as they arise.
  • • Lead HR projects related to policy development, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget constraints.
Experience & Qualification:
  • • Bachelor’s or Diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field [Min NQF7].
  • • A Post-Graduate qualification (NQF8) is an advantage.
  • • Minimum of 4 years of experience in Human Resources Management or as a People Business Partner.
  • • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing HR policies and procedures in a growing organisation.
  • • In-depth knowledge of South African labour laws and regulations.
  • • Experience with recruitment, performance management, compensation practices, and organisational structuring.
  • • Strong project management skills with the ability to lead HR projects and programs.
  • • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present and adapt policies to different stakeholders.
  • • Computer Literacy.
  • • Proficient in using Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) for HR Processes and Documentation.
  • • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • • Strong organisational skills, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • • Experience working in a scaling organisation or supporting high-growth environments.
  • • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and a hands-on approach.
